Playing music in your gym or fitness studio (or at any business open to the public) involves more than just setting a playlist and turning the volume to eleven. If you are streaming from one of the personal services, like Spotify or Apple Music, since it is a commercial setting you are likely violating the Terms of Use for that service. Also, gym and fitness studio owners must secure public performance licenses from U.S. Performance Rights Organizations (ASCAP, BMI, SESAC, and GMR) to lawfully play copyrighted music on site —no shortcuts allowed. And if you are recording or live-streaming workouts with music, yet more licenses are necessary to avoid copyright infringement claims.
